The Rotary Club of Lake Stevens welcomes you to our annual Corks & Kegs event. The Rotary club of Lake Stevens is made up of community minded individuals who come together to improve our community and the world around us. Some of the recent projects we have supported: the new Cavalero Hill Skate Park, new paint and benches at Lundeen Park, last year we help raise funds for Highland Elementary's new playground plus equipment and scholarships to local high school students. We have also provided support for many local non profits in the area such as the Lake Stevens Senior Center, Lake Stevens Food Bank and Hungry Hearts. Our work is never done, there is much more to accomplish and we couldn't do it without your support. We thank you for your generosity, together we can make a difference!
2021 FUND A CAUSE
Corks and Kegs is proud to feature Sherwood Community Services for their Fund-A-Cause this year. Sherwood Community Services provides innovative, inclusive services for children and adults with disabilities.
A Sherwood Speech and Feeding therapist shared a story recently about a toddler who wasn’t communicating yet. When she introduced an iPad as a tool for communication, he was FINALLY able to deliberately ask for Cheerios and yogurt. It was the FIRST time he was able to get what he wanted using a symbol/language. The introduction of the iPad was a game changer for him and his Mom being able to communicate with each other.
After this powerful interaction with this family, it became clear to our Early Intervention team that more children could benefit from the use of iPads to aide in their language development. “It’s important that we are able to give the iPads to the family for continued use. The most difficult part of my interaction with the child was to finally give him his voice, and then walk out the door with it.”
The iPads are the critical missing link between a child who would remain silent and a child who is finally able to communicate with the world around them.
You get to be a part of these children being able to communicate their first words, wants and needs with their parents. What a wonderful gift to give.
